Overview

Learning outcomes and skills gained:

  • Topics include cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, cardiac monitoring, electrocardiogram (EKG) procedures, patient care and cardiac rhythm interpretation.
  • Classroom instruction and hands-on laboratory training provide experience performing 12-lead EKGs, setting up Holter monitors, assisting with stress tests and accurately recording diagnostic results.
  • Upon completion, participants will be prepared to register for the Certified EKG Technician (CET) certification exam through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

About this program

The MCC EKG Technician Course is an in-person, instructor-led program that prepares participants to perform essential tasks in cardiac monitoring and diagnostic testing. Students gain hands-on experience with EKG equipment and learn to conduct 12-lead EKGs, set up Holter monitors, assist with stress tests and accurately record and interpret test results.

Upon completion, participants will be prepared to register for the Certified EKG Technician (CET) certification exam through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) and pursue careers in hospitals, outpatient clinics, physician offices and other healthcare settings.

Program Format and Length

The EKG Technician Course is a six-week, in-person program. Class meets once per week, with each session lasting approximately seven hours. The course combines classroom instruction with hands-on laboratory training to prepare participants for cardiac monitoring and diagnostic testing responsibilities.

Upon completion, participants will be prepared to register for the Certified EKG Technician (CET) certification exam through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

Cost and Funding Opportunities

The cost of the EKG Technician Course is $2,265 and includes all required coursework. The Certified EKG Technician (CET) certification exam fee is paid separately to the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

Eligibility

Participants must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED. Prior healthcare experience is not required. The course is designed for individuals looking to enter the healthcare field or current healthcare professionals seeking to expand their skills.
