General Education Development (GED®) instruction and testing are free for eligible students.

Once students have completed at least 12 hours of instruction and are academically ready, our program will pay for:

  • GED Ready® practice tests in all four subjects (Math, Science, Sodial Studies, and Language Arts)
  • Official GED® tests in all four subjects

To be eligible for free testing vouchers, students must:

  • Be enrolled in Nebraska Adult Education
  • Demonstrate readiness through required assessments
  • Meet state eligibility requirements for GED testing

Program Description

GED Program at MCC provides voluntary learning opportunities to help adults build literacy and academic skills needed for employment and economic self-sufficiency. The program supports parents and families in strengthening educational and career outcomes and assists learners in earning a high school equivalency and transitioning to postsecondary education and career pathways.

Enrollment Steps:

  • Attend an Adult Education information session
  • Complete a pre-assessment to determine instructional level
  • Enroll in and complete a three-week introductory course (Transitional Learning Community – TLC)
  • Complete required Nebraska Department of Education documentation
  • Participate in a Career Pathways interview
  • Complete required computer and digital literacy components
  • Participate in periodic CASAS assessments (every 40 instructional hours or approximately every three months)
  • Attend classes regularly and maintain consistent participation

Additionally, Adult Education department offers a variety of services to support your learning needs and lifestyle, which include:

  • There are no fees for GED classes.
  • Subject-specific instruction in writing, math, social studies and science in an instructor-led learning environment
  • Distance learning with the Aztec educational software
  • Computer Center with access to web-based learning tutorials and staff support
  • Accelerated GED, an accelerated learning option for those who qualify
  • Hands-on opportunities to increase digital literacy skills
  • Career exploration and planning

Program Requirements

Individuals who:

  • have attained 16 years of age;
  • who are not enrolled or required to be enrolled in secondary school under State law; and
    • who are basic skills deficient;
    • do not have a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent, and have not achieved an equivalent level of education; or
    • are English language learners

Nebraska law requires all 16- and 17-year-olds to obtain state permission before enrolling in Adult Education. These requests must be submitted in writing and can only be made by the Adult Education Program Director.

Gateway Pathways for GED

Earn your GED while training for a career. Our Gateway programs combine GED preparation, workforce training, and career coaching into one accelerated experience. You don’t just study, you build academic skills, gain workplace readiness, earn industry certifications, and move toward employment.

Gateway programs follow an Integrated Education and Training (IET) model, meaning you learn academics and career skills at the same time, not separately. This isn’t just a class, it’s a career pathway.

Gateway to Healthcare

This pathway is for students interested in high-demand healthcare careers or in continuing their education in healthcare programs. Build your future in the healthcare field while completing your GED.

  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) / Basic Life Support (BLS)

Gateway to IT

Start your pathway into information technology careers while earning your GED.

Industry certification:

  • CompTIA Tech+ certification

Gateway to Advanced Manufacturing

This pathway prepares students for high-demand manufacturing careers while completing a GED. Students will gain hands-on manufacturing skills, such as Blueprint Document and Procedure Reading, Quality Control and Measurement, Lean Manufacturing and Process Efficiency, and more! Training is aligned with employer-defined skills and foundational manufacturing competencies tied to the Nebraska Manufacturing Advisory Council (NeMAC) Level 1 framework.
