Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration
Overview
The Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC) program covers all aspects of installing, troubleshooting and servicing heating, ventilating and air conditioning and refrigeration systems. This program combines class work with realistic hands-on lab experiences to prepare students for career opportunities as repair persons, business owners, wholesalers and in residential sales.

JOB & SALARY OUTLOOK
Average entry level starting pay is $17 to $20 per hour. Workers in the field are in high demand. Among the many types of jobs available are domestic service and installation, commercial service and installation, installation of walk-in coolers, freezers and ice machines. The Department of Labor reports job prospects for heating, air conditioning and refrigeration mechanics and installers to be excellent, particularly for those who have completed training from an accredited technical school or a formal apprenticeship. A growing number of retirements of highly skilled technicians are expected to generate many job openings. Many contractors have reported problems finding enough employees to meet the demand for service and installation of HVACR systems. For more information, visit: www.bls.gov.
The HVAC program is for you if you possess the following characteristics:
- Good hand-eye coordination
- Basic math skills
- Mechanical ability
- Ability to recognize and solve problems
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
- Like to work both indoors and outdoors
- Like to work as part of a team and enjoy working on different applications almost every time you are on a call
