Overview
Learning outcomes and skills gained:
- Topics include vehicle inspections, backing and maneuvering, shifting and driving techniques, trip planning, cargo safety, hours-of-service regulations, and defensive driving practices.
- Classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction provide hands-on training in vehicle operation, pre-trip inspections, safe driving on city streets and highways, and preparation for the Nebraska CDL-A skills exam.
- Upon completion, participants will meet the necessary requirements to take the Nebraska Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) skills exam.

Prerequisite: Must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid Nebraska driver's license, demonstrate English proficiency, pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and drug screening, and obtain a Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) before behind-the-wheel training.
Time Requirement to Complete Credential: 8-15 weeks of in-person classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction, depending on daytime or evening schedule.

About CDL Program
The MCC CDL-A Truck Driving Course is an in-person, instructor-led program that prepares participants to safely operate Class A commercial vehicles with automatic transmissions and meet industry standards for professional truck drivers. This program is designed for drivers seeking an automatic transmission CDL-A with the E restriction.
Students gain hands-on driving experience while learning vehicle inspections, backing and maneuvering techniques, road safety, and the skills needed to drive on city streets and highways.
Upon completion, participants will be fully prepared to take the Nebraska CDL-A skills exam and pursue careers in local, regional and long-haul trucking. Daytime and evening class options provide flexible scheduling for those looking to begin a career in the transportation industry.

Certification
The CDL-A Truck Driving Course prepares participants to take the Nebraska Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) skills exam. Earning a CDL-A allows drivers to operate combination vehicles, including tractor-trailers, and pursue careers in local, regional and long-haul trucking.
Cost
The cost of the CDL-A Truck Driving Course is $5,351 and includes all required coursework. Financial assistance may be available for eligible participants through the Nebraska GAP Assistance Program, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funding, or Workforce Pell funding.

Eligibility
Participants must be at least 18 years of age. A high school diploma or GED is required. English proficiency is required. Participants must have a valid Nebraska driver's license and be able to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and drug screening. Before beginning behind-the-wheel training, participants must submit a copy of a current DOT physical, a valid Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) and a valid driver's license.
